So Thor is pretty new to this dating game, he's not exactly sure what's expected of him. But from what he's gathered, anniversaries are important, even one-month ones. Which is why he was glad that his suit was finished in time for tonight. He still thinks they're weird, uncomfortable things, but he's willing to put up with it for the way Ele's eyes lit up when he mentioned it. Apparently human women like suits. And, if he's being honest with himself, he looks pretty damn good in this weird earth contraption.

Since they agreed he would come pick her up with one of the SHIELD cars in tow (no, he's not driving, he's got a lowly intern to chauffeur them around, much to the poor kid's combined delight and horror), he took his time getting ready, wanting to look nice for her. He even tied his hair back with one of Natasha's spare elastics; they ended up all over the place. Sometimes he thought she stashed them around just in case she ever decided she needed one but didn't have one handy in her pocket or something. In any case, it serves its purpose, keeping his hair out of his face as he walks up the endless flights of stairs to her door, flowers in hand. He's not sure why cut flowers are customary, they do die, after all, but that's what he's gathered, based on questions he's asked and romantic comedies he's been forced to watch, mostly by Darcy.

Adjusting the weird jacket he's been forced to wear, he knocks on Elenore's door, feeling uncharacteristically anxious.

He smiles at their hands, squeezing hers a little in return. "Good changes, I hope," he murmurs, though he's fairly certain he knows the answer. He doubts she'd have made such an effort for him if she wasn't having a good time.

"The best kind of changes," she answers softly, looking at him with with a sincere warmth. It's hard to put words to what it really means to her. Largely because she can't imagine Thor ever feeling small and trapped.

"Good." He wishes he could take a picture of the way she looks right now. That little smile transforms her whole face. What he said all those nights ago stands; he wishes he was a painter or something, so he could capture the way she looks at him.

"Of course, it doesn't even begin to the little joys like actually being able to sleep regularly at night, thanks to you." It's significantly altered her schedule, if she's honest, but in a way that is far more good than bad. She didn't think she could settle into that pattern so easily.

"You did not sleep?" This is news to Thor. He's always had a pretty regular schedule when he's not off fighting dragons or waking up from nightmares. He likes sleeping.

"A few hours at a time at different times of day and night." Not exactly no sleep, but she admits it wasn't overly healthy. Very little of her life was spent with regular hours because there was no reason for them. Food and whatever else she needed was available at pretty much any time, day or night, in the city.

He hums a little, frowning. "That does not sound healthy, dearest." He's not exactly chiding her, just making a statement. He's glad, at least, that he's managed to encourage her to stick to more normal hours. Plus, that has the added bonus of getting to sleep with her, which is pretty nice.

"It's not," she admits before taking a drink of the wine with her free hand. Her choices vary from very healthy to the exact opposite because of a combination of stubbornness and her odd wiring. Know it and own it has become her motto of choice. "Which makes you a good influence."

"Well, of that I am glad," he replies dryly, lifting his eyebrow at her.

She gives him a cheeky grin. "Okay, a good influence most of the time."

"I will take most over none." And yep, he winks at her again before reaching for his wine.

"As will I."

She enjoys the sight of him in his suit in the restaurant probably most of all because even in the trappings of modern social expectations, there's still something about him that's larger than life. A spark that she'd recognize immediately in a crowded room.

"I'm sorry I didn't ask earlier, but how are things going with the Avengers?"

He feels a little like a child playing dress-up, if he's honest, in clothes he's not used to, clothes that feel strange against his skin. But any mild discomfort he may experience while wearing them is more than worth the sight of her in her dress and her heels, the appreciative cant to her head when she looks at him, the envious stares of the other patrons. Yeah, they're a hot couple, he's well aware.

"No need for apologies, my sweet." He shrugs a little. "It seems we have decided to leave SHIELD," he admits, this time managing to lower his voice so the other people around can't hear him. "We still fight amongst ourselves. Stark and the Captain are still estranged. Banner and the lady Widow are enjoying a dalliance, for which I am glad -- they both deserve the peace a lover brings -- and the mighty Hawkeye is...well. He is himself. I know not what our future will bring us."

They have that much in common. Ele would feel no more natural if she was dressed up in Asgardian gear than she is at the moment. She views it as camouflage, and that helps. If it makes her seem like she belongs in this social circle, then she'll wear it with pride.

Ele listens attentively to the story, making mental note of who stands where and the relationships they form. She dislikes complicated social networks, that doesn't mean she won't try to track them when it comes to understanding Thor's life. "Fewer resources. Less back up. More government challenges. Small fractures will mean more. Freedom from influence will probably be worth it."

He'd like to see her dressed in Asgardian garb. It would be just one more claim he has on her, and the thought warms something inside him. Plus, he's fairly certain his mother's handmaidens would go nuts over her hair.

Thor's life is very complicated. But if she thinks the Avengers are bad, she should wait 'till he tries to explain the complicated relationships the gods have with each other. "That is what we decided, yes. There was concern about being used by the government as puppets or attack dogs. I care little either way; no mortal body shall command me to do what I do not wish to."

If they ever get chance, Ele wouldn't say no. She'd prefer it as a way not to stick out so much, even if her height makes that impossible. Fortunately, Ele has made peace with her height long ago.

She's getting hints of that from the Eddas. Although, her Thor hasn't mentioned being married yet, so she's taking them with a grain of salt. "Part of the concern might not be just what you do, but how the threat and the image of you is used to manipulate people."

They'll have to get her to Asgard first, which will be a bit of a feat. So she won't have to worry about being surrounded by giants just yet.

No, the Eddas are not entirely accurate. Sometimes the mortals liked to embellish tales of their lives. Thor's never minded, not really. "Indeed. To have a group so powerful at the beck and call of one nation would surely stir unease amongst the others."

Yet? Her friends tower over her by, on average, nine inches. It's good training she's got going on here.

They reflect pretty well on him, even if Ele may have chuckled at Thor the bride, and felt her heart break for brothers who once had misadventures rather than war.

"That isn't all. Your name has power. So do your more public peers. If you are perceived as giving approval of an action, people with take it as meaning. Your disapproval the same. An invitation to a state dinner could be that kind of manipulation where they rely on the fact you're not born of this world to try to hide it from you."

Ele cuts herself. She sounds paranoid, and probably is Better to stop now.

"I try to avoid state functions if I can help it," he confesses. "I find them mostly tedious. And I would not wish to beggar my hosts with my appetite." He's going to have to rely on her to explain shit like that to him, he doesn't yet grasp the intricacies of human politics.

"If you get invited to one on earth that's worth going to? Don't worry about the cost of the food. They have more than enough money to cover it." She'll help him with warnings and explanations. Thanks to him, Ele will start paying closer attention to the matters at hand.

Speaking of food... Their waiter returns with their meals, carefully setting the plates in front of them and then melting away from whence he came. Thor barely notices him leaving.

He probably has to let go of her hand now, huh?

Hot food is better eaten with both hands in use. Especially for the cutting into acceptable sized bites. She gives his hand a squeeze before gently taking her hand back.

"IT looks like you chose well."

"As did you." He eyes her plate with interest, though he has to admit his beef stew is pretty appealing too. Thor loves food.

The fancy veggie stew does smell pretty awesome. Thank you, Pixar, for not steering her wrong. "Would you like a taste?"

He laughs, shaking his head. "Best not to, methinks," he replies. "You might not have any left for yourself."

I wish real life had handwaving. It would make work so much easier.

It so would, and chores. Chores would be less of an issue.

Naps would be great, too. They'd take up no time but be just as satisfying as normal.

Oh man, I'd never be short on sleep again.
