rp ☁ love in a foreign place
So Thor is pretty new to this dating game, he's not exactly sure what's expected of him. But from what he's gathered, anniversaries are important, even one-month ones. Which is why he was glad that his suit was finished in time for tonight. He still thinks they're weird, uncomfortable things, but he's willing to put up with it for the way Ele's eyes lit up when he mentioned it. Apparently human women like suits. And, if he's being honest with himself, he looks pretty damn good in this weird earth contraption.
Since they agreed he would come pick her up with one of the SHIELD cars in tow (no, he's not driving, he's got a lowly intern to chauffeur them around, much to the poor kid's combined delight and horror), he took his time getting ready, wanting to look nice for her. He even tied his hair back with one of Natasha's spare elastics; they ended up all over the place. Sometimes he thought she stashed them around just in case she ever decided she needed one but didn't have one handy in her pocket or something. In any case, it serves its purpose, keeping his hair out of his face as he walks up the endless flights of stairs to her door, flowers in hand. He's not sure why cut flowers are customary, they do die, after all, but that's what he's gathered, based on questions he's asked and romantic comedies he's been forced to watch, mostly by Darcy.
Adjusting the weird jacket he's been forced to wear, he knocks on Elenore's door, feeling uncharacteristically anxious.

Ele hasn't tried to dress up since the the last time she actually bothered trying to date about a year ago. This is different. Thor is a god and a prince, and it matters to her that she can clean up nice for him. It matters in the same way that it matters that she keeps working on actually letting her become what she is capable of being. If she can be loved and safe, there's no more reason to hide.
So Ele bought a new dress and heels, spent time on her hair and tried makeup, but stopped when she tried to get lipstick. Everything seemed like the wrong shade, and it made her fidget too much. By the time she opens the door, she's sure that the relatively simple dress and heels are a stupid decision. She should have gone with something longer.
Any thought of that is out of her mind the second she opens the door. The beautiful flowers and Thor in a suit? She's amazed she can even manage to say, "Oh, wow."
Just pretend he's still got his beard, lol. I give up.
"My sweet, for you." He holds out the flowers in their little glass vase. The flower shop had been extremely confusing, not at all helped by the pushy sales girl who took his mention of anniversary and ran with it. He hadn't wanted huge bouquets of roses, though, they didn't seem suited to his down-to-earth girlfriend. The wildflowers looked perfect, though, since the sunflowers reminded him of her hair, the delphinium of her eyes. "I hope they suffice, I was unsure what to buy for an occasion such as this."
I'm very good at pretending! Plus, he does look good in that suit.
"They're beautiful, Thor," she beams at him as she accepts the flowers, holding them close for a moment just to relish them. The most handsome man on the planet had just given her her first real bouquet of flowers. "I'll just set these down before we go. The reservations are in about fifteen minutes so we should be there in plenty of time."
Ele goes and sets them on the counter.
He also seems averse to ties. Thor approves.
He follows her into her kitchen when she goes to set down the flowers, giving in and skimming his hands down her arms as he kisses the top of her head. He doesn't care about the reservations, not really. He knows it's important, and he'll suffer through keeping himself in check for the duration of dinner, but he'd be lying if he said he wasn't eagerly anticipating walking her up to her door. He knows what follows after that.
"You look more beautiful than Lady Freja herself."
They have something in common!
She turns to him, recalling the name from a book of myths she's quietly been devouring to get a frame of reference for his world. "You're flattering me, my lion, but I like it."
Only fitting, considering.
Once he finds the book hidden in her apartment he's going to be so touched. And then offer to tell her anything she wants to know. Talking about home is bittersweet, but he doesn't want to seem like he's hiding part of his life from her.
"I am not," he protests, smiling. "I but speak the truth. You are far lovelier than any woman I know."
It really is. Plus, I can't think it would fun to wear a tie.
She's afraid to ask about his past and hurt him, so she doesn't. But given the time he spends there, and the way she gets forgetful when distracted, it's bound to happen some time. For now, she just turns to face him.
"And you are the handsomest man I've ever seen."
As someone who went to private school, I can tell you they're not.
He smirks, leaning down to steal a quick little kiss. They can't get too distracted, they've got places to be. But one little kiss can't hurt. "Together, we make a fine pair."
Rebel against the noose!
One kiss is more than enough to distract Ele terribly. He makes her feel so much more beautiful than she did, and glad she went with a gloss instead of lipstick. "With more blonde hair than the city is used to seeing between us."
no subject
He's a little more distracted than he planned to be, too. "They will look upon us and be consumed with jealousy."
no subject
"Then we had better make sure they get to have that opportunity, before I forget."
no subject
"Yes, of course." He steps back, clearing his throat, and smooths down the front of his shirt before offering her his arm. "I have a carriage waiting outside for us." Yes, he means a car.
no subject
She takes his arm with a smile. There are carriages in New York. He could be being serious, or maybe mean a car. Either way, this is going to be fun. "You planned ahead. I'm impressed."
no subject
If he meant an actual carriage, he'd be using his own, which would be pulled by motherfucking goats. Oh yeah, that's romantic. "We have been romantically involved for a month now. I was told that one should mark occasions such as these with celebration."
no subject
She beams with contentment up at him. "Going out to dinner after you got me beautiful flowers only to come home with you seems like a great celebration. I've got a few small gifts for you, too."
no subject
He's very careful to help guide her out her door and down the stairs, remembering her unsteadiness the last time she wore heels. He doesn't want her to twist her ankle, after all. That would be a terrible derailment of their plans. "You did? My sweet, you need not have done that. I am content simply with the gift of your company."
no subject
This is definitely a steadier day than the last time, but stairs are evil, and Thor's arm is always a wonderful thing. There's no steadier assistance when it comes to walking. "It was never about need. It's because I love you, and I wanted to do something that would make you happy."
no subject
The smile that spreads across his face when she mentions love is probably pretty ridiculous looking, but he doesn't care much. She loves him. That's awesome. "You always make me happy, Elenore."
no subject
He kind of looks like a dork. The fact he kind of looks like a dork just makes him all that more attractive in the moment. She will have to say she loves him more. "And so do you, so there's no reason to not try for a little more. Also, they're pretty goofy, so just be ready for that."
no subject
He won't complain if she wants to tell him more often. He grins at her, shrugging. "I will like them all the more for their ridiculousness." He doesn't care what they are, that she thought to get him anything at all is enough. And if they're funny, that's even better. He'll think of her and he'll laugh and those are both very good things.
no subject
"Well then, good." She snuggles a little closer as they get outside through the door. Seeing no carriage, she guesses that the waiting car might be what he means.
no subject
He does, indeed, mean the car. "My lady." He carefully lets go of her so he can open the car door and offer her a hand inside, sliding in after her once she's situated. The SHIELD intern in the front seat whistles beneath his breath, which both makes Thor puff up with pride -- yeah, she's his girlfriend, suck it! -- and glower menacingly at him -- back off, bitch -- in the rearview mirror.
no subject
Ele waits for Thor to get in and leans against him just slightly. It's not exactly hard to find an excuse given how much space he takes up, but the not so subtle is there and remarkably similar to the message of Thor's dirty look.
no subject
The ride to the restaurant isn't that long, thankfully, and he does what he did at her apartment just in reverse, getting out and offering her a hand.
no subject
Which is exactly what they'll find out after she takes his hand to get out. The action is far less elegant than getting into the car. She wobbles and has to hold onto Thor with both hands before she takes a step. Not exactly the elegance she was hoping for, but at least he was there.

ack sorry, keep getting distracted by fighting
Fighting? That sounds interesting.
not actual fighting, fake RP fighting lol. I'm too lazy to acutally fight.
LOL! I'm gonna have to go read that now I've got a little more time and focus
Everyone's in different time zones, though, so it's hard to keep threads going :(
:[ That's a crying shame
I know!
At least people seem to be trying anyway.
There will probably be lots of handwaving lol
Hey, it's rp. Handwaving is awesome.
I wish real life had handwaving. It would make work so much easier.
It so would, and chores. Chores would be less of an issue.
Naps would be great, too. They'd take up no time but be just as satisfying as normal.
Oh man, I'd never be short on sleep again.
Seriously, it would make my life awesome.
All you'd ever have to do would be the fun parts.
Which is all anyone really wants anyway, so...
Of course it's impossible.
Sigh.
